Woodside Golf Course hosts 8th GAM 14 & Under Match Play Championship – Macomb Daily

EAST LANSING – Woodside Golf Course is one of a handful of 12-hole golf courses in the country designed to appeal to those new to the game and those looking for a less time-consuming, less physically challenging experience.

Hawk Hollow golf course, the sister course to the popular Eagle Eye, Hawk Hollow and Timber Ridge courses in the area, is proving to be the perfect venue for the boys and girls who will be playing in the 8th GAM 14 & Under Match Play Championship presented by Absopure on Wednesday and Thursday, August 7 and 8.

Previously a nine-hole facility, Woodside added three holes designed by Eagle Eye architect Chris Lutzke in 2014. It spans 146 acres along Wood Road and features hardwoods framing generous fairways. The 12 Woodside holes can typically be played in less than 3 hours.

A group of 32 boys and 16 girls will play in the tournament, which combines stroke play and match play. Players will be placed on match play flights after a 12-hole stroke play qualifier on Monday morning. Players will play three matches against other players of similar skill levels through Tuesday afternoon.

Last year, Okemos’ Saisha Patil and Macomb’s Julian Sinishtaj won the championship bracket. Patil, 13, the 2023 GAM 15-and-under Girls Player of the Year, returns to defend her title, while Sinishtaj, the recent 15-and-under champion at the Michigan Junior State Amateur, has aged out of the competition and is ineligible to defend his title.
