Carmen’s Crew dominated Takeover BC early and eventually reached the TBT semifinals

Takeover BC faced Carmen’s Crew on Monday night, having averaged 89 points in their first three games of the Basketball Tournament (TBT).

That’s what made the first half of Carmen’s Crew’s quarterfinal matchup at Freedom Hall in Louisville all the more impressive. Carmen’s Crew, Ohio State’s unofficial alumni team, gave up just 25 points to Takeover BC at halftime.

Led by former University of Texas-Arlington guard Erick Neal, Carmen’s Crew applied suffocating ball pressure, taking out Takeover BC’s top two players, AJ English (Iona) and Desi Washington (St. Peter’s University), early in the game.

Meanwhile, nine Carmen’s Crew players had scored in the 7:13 mark of the second quarter. Carmen’s Crew had a solid day from behind the three-point line, hitting 16 of their three-pointers, or 42.1 percent. Led by Andre Wesson’s 16 points, Carmen’s Crew led by as many as 40 points but only won 16, 90-74, in the fourth quarter, including a messy Elam Ending in which Neal and Takeover BC’s Jaquan Lightfoot (Southeastern Community College and Trinity Valley Community College) were both ejected after receiving their second technical fouls.

But that doesn’t change the outcome: No. 3 seed Carmen’s Crew travels to Philadelphia to face No. 2 seed La Familia, Kentucky’s unofficial alumni team, in a TBT semifinal matchup that will air on FS1 at 9 p.m. ET on Friday.

Despite a roller coaster ending to Monday night’s game against Takeover BC, Carmen’s Crew dominated in total rebounds (44-32), offensive rebounds (15-8), second-chance points (17-5), assists (22-6), points in the paint (24-18), fast-break points (10-4) and points off the bench (39-29).

Eight Carmen’s Crew players finished with seven or more points, including Jared Sullinger (7 points), who made his first 3-pointer of TBT and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Neal (12 points) and former East Tennessee State guard Desonta Bradford (10 points) joined Wesson in double figures. Former Memphis guard Chris Crawford (21 points) and Washington (19 points) paced Takeover BC.

Bradford gave Carmen’s Crew their fourth consecutive win by drilling Elam Ender.

Kansas State University graduate transfer guard Ques Glover joins Buckeyes

Ohio State adds veteran player to roster Question Glover Monday. Glover joins the Buckeyes after spending two years at Florida, two years at Samford and then a stop at BYU before settling at Kansas State for the 2023-24 season.

But Glover didn’t play a game for K-State last year. He suffered a season-ending knee injury and redshirted the season. So, really, the veteran point guard only played at Florida and Samford. Now he’s looking to add Ohio State to that list.

Adding Glover gives the Buckeyes more depth at guard Taison Chat Man He tore his anterior cruciate ligament earlier this summer.

Five questions for the Buckeyes as offseason ends, training camp opens this week

Training camp begins this week for Ohio State football, and that means Lettermen Row will ramp up its preview broadcast, starting with five questions for the team ahead of a busy August practice.

The big question is: “How long will the Quarterback fight last?”

Head coach Ryan Day usually keeps the competition going until late August. Last year, it technically extended into the regular season. Day is hoping to get better results from the position this time around. Also, offensive coordinator and play-caller Chip Kelly is now the quarterbacks coach.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, and the same goes for the other intriguing Buckeyes camp stories Lettermen Row covers here.

Countdown

Buckeyes – Akron: 32 days
