Men’s Basketball, five student-athletes honored for Academic Excellence by NABC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Denison University men’s basketball team was well represented by on the 2023-24 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court, which was announced Monday by the organization.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men’s basketball programs that completed the 2023-24 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men’s basketball players who finished the 2023-24 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Five junior members of the Big Red secured spots on the NABC Honors Court. Earning the recognition were Cameron Smith (Cleveland, Ohio / University School), Gates Flynn (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit Country Day), Jay Jackson (Columbus, Ohio / Centennial), Ricky Radtke (Willoughby, Ohio / University School) and Scotty Dean (Chicago, Ill. v. Loyola Academy).

Over 2,100 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court and over 360 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2023-24.

Denison finished with a 15-12 overall record and a 10-6 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference play in 2023-24. The Big Red advanced to the NCAC Tournament Semifinals. The season was highlighted by a 73-65 road win over Wabash on Jan 3.
