Virat Kohli had a long chat with Sanath Jayasuriya after the LBW controversy in India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI | Watch

Rohit Sharma’s India suffered a shock defeat against hosts Sri Lanka in the second ODI on Sunday. The victory meant Sri Lanka took an unbeaten lead in the series and will have a chance to win the ODI series in the third and final match on Sunday. But more than the result of the match, a fresh debate has gathered momentum over Virat Kohli’s dismissal.

During the 2nd ODI match, Kohli was found in front of his stumps in the 15th over of the match and was given out lbw. The veteran batsman quickly reviewed the decision and to his and bowler Akila Dananjaya’s great surprise, the third umpire found a nick on the ultra’s edge and overturned the decision. The decision drew a strong reaction from the Sri Lankan players, with wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis throwing his helmet on the ground and captain Charith Asalanka also taking her objection to the on-field umpire.

Finally, Kohli was dismissed by debutant Jeffrey Vandersay in the 20th over of the match and with Kohli getting just 14 in his second over, you would have thought that was the end of the debate. However, it seems that Sri Lanka’s interim coach Sanath Jayasuriya was unhappy with the DRS decision and wanted to give Kohli his opinion.

As Kohli approached the Sri Lankan delegation for the traditional handshake after the match, he was stopped by Jayasuriya, who engaged in a heated exchange with the veteran batsman that was caught on camera. However, in the end, both Jaysuriya and Kohli patted each other on the back and appeared to have put the matter behind them.

What is remarkable is that this is the first time that India have failed to win an ODI series in Sri Lanka since 1997. What is even more impressive is that the hosts are missing several key players and are coming back after losing all three T20I matches.
