Surprising move – Helmut Marko: Why Sergio Perez could stay

Will Max Verstappen be able to continue his “one-man show” at Red Bull in the second half of the season? Or can Sergio Perez really turn things around and build on his strong performance at the start of the season? After all, Perez has scored 107 of his 131 points in the first six races. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, leads the championship with 277 points. This means that the Dutchman has more than twice as many points as the Mexican. And yet: Perez stays. Surprisingly for many. Helmut Marko is now explaining the decision in his “Speedweek” column. “The races are coming up on the tracks where he was good last year, we are counting on consistency,” says Marko. “He has shown good performances repeatedly in the interval. Perez does not need to be faster, he needs to be more consistent,” emphasizes the 81-year-old driver from Graz. “Considering the alternatives, he is still our best solution.”
