Motorsport: Motor racing – Formula 1 bans awarding points after 10th place

LONDON (Reuters) – Formula One’s governing body, the FIA, said on Tuesday it would retain its current points system instead of offering awards to finishers beyond the top 10.

The Formula One commission, which includes all teams and key stakeholders, postponed a decision in April on whether points would be awarded more broadly.

The FIA said the commission, chaired by Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis, met again in London and unanimously agreed that no changes would be made.

All teams except Sauber scored points in 13 of the 24 races.

The top four teams are well ahead of the rest, with Aston Martin, RB and Haas forming a second group in fifth to seventh places, while the remaining three teams are much further behind.

At the meeting, it was also agreed that the minimum weights for the vehicle and driver should be increased by 2 kg for the health of the drivers.

Pre-season testing in 2026 will consist of nine test days spread over three events.
