NIU women’s soccer team plays first game of the season

ROCKFORD, Illinois (WIFR) – On Friday evening, the NIU women’s soccer team opened their season with an exhibition game against the Western Illinois Leathernecks before beginning regular season play.

The Huskies soccer roster features a number of girls from the 815, including goalkeeper Ari Purifoy from Harlem, defender Maddie Macon from Freeport and forward Reegan Kingpavong from Guilford.

Ari Purifoy recently transferred to NIU after playing two seasons at Oklahoma State. Purifoy was the starter for the Huskies where he made some tough saves to keep the Leathernecks from getting on the scoreboard.

Freshman McKenna Campbell-Turkalj scored the opening goal for the Huskies.
