Paris 2024 Olympics: Five Things We Learned on Day 9 – Golden Slam

Novak Djokovic won the tennis gold medal. The old man Novak cried. His defeated opponent Carlos Alcaraz cried. The kid felt he had let everyone down. That’s what the Olympics are like; you play for the homeland.

Noelle took her lollipop

Novak – Nole to his friends and family – Djokovic won the tennis singles title 16 years after winning the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Rafael Nadal won it. Andy Murray won for Britain in 2012 and 2016 and Alex Zverev took the award for Germany in Tokyo in 2021. It all left Djokovic, 37, feeling rather down. But he was all smiles after beating Carlos Alcaraz, 21, from Spain, 7-6, 7-6 for what Djokovic called one of the highest honours.

Amusement center

Weapons-grade testosterone, or as the Olympics call it, the men’s 100-meter final. The race to determine the fastest man on the planet ended with bodies colliding at the finish line. It was a photo finish to find the alpha of alphas. Noah Lyles, as he was called, took a victory lap, clutching his name tag on his vest in case the braided hair didn’t help with identification. Happy Days
