USA Basketball vs. Puerto Rico live: Updates, highlights and score

The USA Basketball Men’s National Team has been excellent at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as they aim for the gold medal. The U.S. now focuses on the final group stage match against Puerto Rico to secure the top spot in the group.

The USA National Team, with its star squad including Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant, showed that it can win the gold medal for the fifth time in a row.

Team USA easily won their first group match against Nikola Jokić’s Serbia, coasting to a 110–84 victory. The USA continued their momentum in their second group stage match against South Sudan, a stark contrast to their close pre-Olympic match against the same team in June, when they narrowly won 101–100. This time, Team USA pulled off a convincing 103–86 victory in Paris.

USA Basketball-South Sudan: Highlights, more than just dominant victory at Paris Olympics

The USA led Puerto Rico 64-45 at halftime of men’s 5×5 basketball Group C play. Puerto Rico kept the score close for most of the half with solid shooting and took a 25-17 lead in the first quarter. But the USA’s talent and depth began to wear down Puerto Rico. The USA bench outscored Puerto Rico’s reserves 27-16, and the USA closed the final four minutes of the second quarter with a 20-4 run.

Anthony Edwards added 12 points, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Jayson Tatum each had eight points, LeBron James had eight points, six assists and four rebounds. Jose Alvarado led Puerto Rico with 13 points. -Jeff Zillgitt

Entering halftime, Team USA extended its lead over Puerto Rico to 64-45, with Anthony leading the scoring with 12 points.

Anthony Edwards, who came off the bench, scored 12 points, while Kevin Durant scored 8 points, helping the USA to a 44-37 victory over Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is not advancing to the quarterfinal round due to points, but that hasn’t stopped them from battling the U.S. and keeping it close. The U.S. currently leads 42-37 with just under five minutes left in the second quarter.

The USA took the lead early in the second half on a Kevin Durant three-pointer, and the red-white-blue team took a 31-29 lead over Puerto Rico.

Jayson Tatum is the current leading scorer for the USA with six points, two rebounds and one assist. The USA trails Puerto Rico 25-29 entering the second quarter.

Team USA coach Steve Kerr called a timeout after Puerto Rico went on an 11-0 run early in the first quarter to extend its largest lead of the game, 25-15.

Jrue Holiday will miss Saturday’s Olympic group stage match against Puerto Rico due to an ankle injury he suffered during the match against South Sudan.
