Celine Herbin Makes Hole-In-One in First Round of Portland Classic | LPGA

Celine Herbin made a hole-in-one in the first round of the Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday.

The Frenchwoman won the first round with an 8-iron on the 153-yard, par-3 second hole at Columbia’s Edgewater Country Club, her third hole-in-one of her life. But it was Herbin’s first time in a tournament, and the 41-year-old was proud of what he had finally accomplished in his decades-long professional golf career.

“I finally caught one in a tournament,” Herbin said. “It was perfect. I saw it go in. It was a mini pull, to be honest. I was aiming two or three yards to the right and it was a mini pull. People told me it rolled really smooth, it looked like it was going to be really close. So, I’m happy with the hit, and it was a good moment.”

Herbin’s ace was the 17th hole-in-one in an LPGA Tour event this season, and CME Group will donate another $20,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of the CME Group Cares Challenge – 1 Point for St. Jude campaign.

The Challenge is a season-long giving program that turns aces into donations, with a minimum of $500,000 in guaranteed donations to St. Jude by the end of the 2024 season.

Herbin’s hole-in-one putt in the first round of the Portland Classic brought this year’s fundraising total to $340,000, the first ace on Tour since Soo Bin Joo’s hole-in-one putt on the second hole at Highland Meadows Golf Club in the final round of the Dana Open.

While every hole-in-one is memorable for a professional golfer, the opportunity to contribute to childhood cancer research at Columbia Edgewater Country Club was an even more special moment for Herbin. He was thrilled to hear that he could help make a positive impact in the lives of others through the CME Group Cares Challenge.

“It’s much better. I’m so happy I could help some people,” Herbin said. “I’m so happy we got this deal with CME and I’m so happy they gave it to charity. It’s great.”
