Baseball Fever – SNJ Today

They say we go back to the things we loved as pre-teens, and maybe that explains why I’ve turned to Phillies baseball in recent years. I remember watching games with my brother on a second TV set on summer evenings because everyone else in our house was watching 1970s sitcoms on the other set.

Back in the day, I was supporting players like Mike Schmidt, Larry Bowa, Greg Luzinski and, yes, Don Money.

A few years ago I discovered that Money lived nearby and that his later grandson, Buddy Kennedy, played baseball at the same high school where Mike Trout grew up, Millville High School.

I’ve been following Kennedy’s path since he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and I was thrilled to hear that Arizona had traded him to the Phillies earlier this year.

In a conversation with our writer Bill Sokolic this week, Kennedy said he’s been dreaming of playing for the team he’s been watching since he was a kid. He doesn’t know when—or even if—he’ll get the call-up, and if he’ll be playing alongside Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber at Citizens Bank Park, but I’ll take a guess: Man, it’s gonna happen! I’d even say it’s gonna happen before the end of this season.

And I’ll be watching!
