Canyon Barry and Fans React Intensely to Team USA’s First 3×3 Win

The Team USA 3×3 men’s basketball team earned its first victory of the Paris Olympics on Friday, beating Serbia 21-19. Simply put, it was The Canyon Barry Game. Rick Barry’s son scored 15 of Team USA’s 21 points, including the game-winning goal.

Barry was driving to the basket, spinning to his left, switching pivot feet and dropping to the floor as he took an off-balance shot. Barry’s reaction was intense. So was a fan’s reaction.

This is the reaction of someone who traveled halfway around the world to watch American exceptionalism, subdued for days as Team USA struggled to even get a spot in the win column. And then Canyon Barry happens and all hell breaks loose.

Barry hit four two-pointers on seven attempts and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. And yes, those were from underneath. (You can watch full highlights on YouTube.)

Kareem Maddux added three points and Dylan Travis chipped in with two. Jimmer Fredette scored one point in limited action after missing both of Team USA’s games on Thursday.
