Andy Roddick Slams Fox News Over Taylor Swift’s Statement

Former tennis player Andy Roddick slammed Fox News host Harris Faulkner tells Taylor Swift to keep politics out of her life Ages Tour.

Swift’s Instagram post on Tuesday quickly sparked viral speculation that the star was making a veiled endorsement of Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. In the shared photo, Swift is seen performing during her set of “Lover” at a tour stop in Warsaw, Poland, with a silhouetted woman waving behind her with her back to the camera. Many social media users noted that the woman resembled Harris, fueling speculation about a possible endorsement.

However, in the photo on the seventh slide of the post commemorating the Warsaw concerts, a background singer is seen walking on stage before Swift performs her song “Lover.”

This didn’t stop Fox News In an attempt to prevent the presenters from discussing the possible endorsement, Roddick disagreed with Faulkner’s statement that Swift “doesn’t need to present politics.”

Newsweek sent by email Fox News and spokespeople for Swift and Roddick were not available for comment on Thursday.

“Imagine someone telling @taylorswift13 how/what to perform. On her own show ……. Telling her to shut up and dribble, but also asking Scott Baio/Ted Nugent about their campaign strategy on air,” Roddick wrote on his X account, formerly Twitter. At the time of writing, Roddick’s post has been viewed 213,600 times.

His post was in response to a video shared by anti-Trump Republicans of the X-account, of a Fox News segment in which Faulker and co-stars debated whether Swift supported Harris on stage.

“I think two things about it, the tickets to go see it are outrageously expensive. I know because, you know, it’s Bella’s 16th birthday, she wanted it, she’s a huge Taylor Swift fan. And, if we as consumers are going to pay that much money, you don’t need to get political about it,” Faulkner said.

“It’s divided us as a nation, why can’t you go to a concert without it? He can vote all he wants, he can talk about it off stage, but when people pay to see you, just perform. And by the way, this is just my opinion of this photo, if you’re a backup dancer, why are you wearing a suit? I mean you can see this is a blazer and this is pants.”

When someone in the background said, “That’s a guy,” Faulkner replied, “Is there a song where somebody puts on a suit and, I don’t know, maybe it’s like, says, ‘I went to corporate headquarters’?”

Despite no direct comment or concrete evidence from Swift, the claim of support spread rapidly on social media via both left- and right-leaning accounts on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

A video uploaded to X by a user named Jacob Wulff, who identifies himself as a Donald Trump supporter, further debunks the claim. The full video from the concert shows Swift addressing the crowd while the background singer walks to the back of the stage between songs.

“Luckily it’s not Taylor Swift supporting Kamala Harris. I found the raw video. Myth debunked,” he wrote.

Despite speculation, Swift has not endorsed anyone for the 2024 presidential election, but Democrats remain optimistic about the possibility. An endorsement could boost a campaign due to Swift’s immense popularity and fan base. However, she did endorse President Joe Biden and Harris during the 2020 campaigns.

In an interview in October 2020 V magazineSwift said she was “proud” to vote for Biden because she believed the US had a chance to “begin the healing process that it so desperately needs” under his leadership.

“The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to decide what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves recognition and inclusion,” she said.

“Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first,” Swift continued. “The only way to make things better is to elect leaders who are willing to confront these problems and find ways to overcome them.”
