The 24-time Grand Slam champion said, Carlos Alcaraz – 16 years his junior – at the end of an epic final that provided plenty of emotion. The former world number one was good at raising his level in the decisive moments of the match and not giving the young Spaniard a chance. Two tiebreaks were the difference in the 37-year-old from Belgrade and he broke down in tears before going to hug his family at the end of the match. Hardly anyone expected such a performance from Nole, who has struggled for most of this season.

Novak had been given a stern lesson by Carlitos in the Wimbledon final a few weeks ago and bookmakers were clearly favouring Alcaraz on the eve of the final. Djokovic surprised his opponent by playing well with his forehand, serving well throughout the match and playing aggressive tennis that frequently brought him close to the net. Novak Djokovic once again shocked the worldFew expected him to beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Paris Olympic final.

The long wait is over for Novak Djokovic

In a post on X, the Italian legend Adriano Panatta – who has often criticized Nole in the past – was forced to admit that he was wrong: “Djokovic showed today, if there is still a need, that he is a great champion“I said I didn’t think he could play at this level again, but he proved me wrong and I wanted to honor him. Hats off!”

Novak gave it her all in the Paris Olympic final and knew it was her last chance to achieve her biggest dream. “I’m overwhelmed with everything I’m feeling right now,” Nole told NBC in post-match comments. “A million different emotions, of course: positive, very proud, very happy. The possibility of fighting for a gold and winning a gold for my country for the first time in my career is arguably the greatest achievement I’ve ever had.

Of course, I want everything I can win in my individual career, but winning the Davis Cup for Serbia at the age of thirty-seven and especially the gold medal at the Olympic Games is unprecedented. I’m just starting my celebrations, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next forty-eight hours..

My puzzle, (completed). I always tell myself that I’m enough, because I can be very critical of myself. Probably one of the biggest battles I have with myself is feeling like I’m not doing enough. That I’m not enough in my life, on and off the field, so that’s a big lesson for me. I am so grateful for the blessing of winning a historic gold medal for my country.“To complete the Golden Slam, to break all records.”

Nole surprised Carlitos

Djokovic’s level of play also surprised Alcaraz, who had not expected a similar performance from his opponent. The four-time Grand Slam champion played a great match but failed to make the difference in the decisive moments. Speaking to Eurosport, Carlitos said of his performance: “When the whole ceremony was over, I went to the bike to cool down and there I had a little talk with Juan Carlos about the match, about what was basically going on. In such a close match, you don’t need to look at too many details; in the end, when it was time to raise the level, we didn’t do it, and Djokovic did.

That’s the only thing I can blame myself for, or that’s what I need to improve on in tiebreaks and break points in my favor. He raised the level and I didn’t. When you miss opportunities against someone like Djokovic, you pay the price later. I’ll think about this match because these situations make you improve; I’ll be a better player because of this match. and so I’m going to analyze it and look at the details
