UNC Basketball ‘In the Mix’ for 7-foot Julius Halaifonua

UNC basketball still has an open roster spot if Hubert Davis and his staff choose to fill it. And judging by the growing buzz around the Julius Halaifonua sweepstakes, there’s a chance the 7-foot, 290-pound center from New Zealand could be the final addition for the 2024-25 Tar Heels.

Over the weekend, Halaifonua, who has become a key post talent at the NBA Global Academy in Auckland, confirmed to On3’s Jacob Polacheck that he will reclassify from 2025 to 2024 and is likely considering enrolling somewhere for the fall semester.

Additionally, Polacheck reported that Kentucky no longer appeared to be pursuing Halaifonua, while citing UNC basketball coaches and Georgetown as suitors “in the mix.”

Earlier this month at the NBA Academy Games in Atlanta, Julius Halaifonua, who is an advanced basketball shooter in the paint, counted the Tar Heels among those who reached out to him.

On3 places him 60th overall and 11th for his position in the 2024 cycle.

There is no news that Halaifonua has received an offer from Hubert Davis, but it is possible that the intriguing giant will not announce new offers until it announces a winner in its transfer.
