Wisconsin basketball transfer guard fully cleared for 2024 season

Wisconsin basketball transfer guard Camren Hunter has been cleared to play in the upcoming 2024 season, according to CBS’ Jon Rothstein.

Hunter, who missed the entire 2023-24 season due to a foot injury, transferred from Central Arkansas to Wisconsin in April.

When the former Atlantic Sun Conference guard plays, he makes an immediate impact. Before his injury, Hunter averaged 16.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals as a sophomore in 2022-23. He made a team-high 50 three-pointers in 33.9 minutes per game.

A year ago, the Bryant, Arkansas native accounted for 14.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 shots per game. That performance earned him the 2022 ASUN Freshman of the Year award and a spot on the 2022 First Team All-ASUN.

With Hunter on the roster, the Badgers have several options at the quarterback position heading into the 2024 season.

Four-star true freshman PG Daniel Freitag looks to be a go-to player in Greg Gard’s rotation, but Hunter is sure to get plenty of playing time given his proven success at the college level.

Wisconsin also added guard John Tonje and power forward Xavier Amos in the portal this offseason. While Amos does his damage down low, Tonje will slide into the backcourt with former fan favorite Chucky Hepburn heading to Louisville.

The Badgers will begin their 2024 schedule with an exhibition game against UW-River Falls on Oct. 30 at the Kohl Center.
