Beavers look strong at start | News, Sports, Jobs


CALCUTTA — The Beaver Local boys’ golf team defeated Springfield 154-185 on Wednesday at Beaver Meadows Golf Club.

Braxton Hickman, Britton Hickman and Owen Hill each scored 38 points for Beaver Local, while Andre Wiegand added 40 points.

Springfield was led by Jackson Ensley’s 36.

The Beavers (3-1) will be in the first round of the Buckeye 8 tournament on Monday at Cadiz Country Club.

Southern Triad

GUILFORD LAKE — The United men’s golf team swept Southern and East Palestine in a three-way match Wednesday at Twin Springs.

United sophomore Davin Ingold scored 34 points in the win, leading the Eagles with 183 points. Southern followed with 184 and East Palestine with 200.

For the Eagles, Adam Looman scored 44 points, Jacob Dileo 49 points, and Lukas Hamilton and Isaiah Conley each scored 56 points.

Wyatt Bach had 43 points, Logan Howell and Trevor Groff each had 46 points and Austin Harshbarger had 49 for Southern (1-2).

For East Palestine, Brad Bartels used 44, Xander Pink used 46, Kayla Bland and Alivia Manges used 55.

Columbiana 183, Boardman 202

COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana girls golf team improved its win count to five with a 183-202 win over Boardman at the Valley on Wednesday.

Maddie Jackson led the Clippers with 42 points, Hailey Muntean with 44 points, Victoria Buckingham with 47 points and Sophia Perry with 50 points.

Gianna Ross topped Boardman with a score of 42.

Heartland Christian had two golfers with Khloe Shodd shooting a 56 and Lila Henderschott shooting a 64

Columbiana will compete in the Mahoning Valley Girls Golf Classic today at Yankee Run.

Champion 177, Crestview 185

CALCUTTA — The defending champions defeated Crestview 177-185 on Tuesday at Beaver Creek Meadows.

Dylan Howell won the championship with a time of 39.

Braydon Gilbert scored 41 points, Peyton Conkle had 42 points, Caleb Booth had 50 points and Elaina Louk had 52 points for Crestview.

Crestview (0-2) will face Liberty today at 1:30 p.m. at Beaver Creek Meadows.

Salem 173, Alliance 188

ALLIANCE — Salem defeated Alliance 173-188 on Tuesday at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club.

For Salem, Traevon Washington led the team in scoring with 41 points, followed by Keegan Sommers and Eli James with 43 points, and Caden Arcuri with 46 points.

Cade Blatt led the Alliance with 43 points.

Salem improved to 1-1 in the league and 2-1 overall. The Quakers will face Lisbon today at 1:30 p.m. in Salem Hills.
