Andy Murray Quits Tennis in a Hilarious Turn at the Paris Olympics

Scottish tennis star Andy Murray used his trademark dark sense of humour as he announced his official retirement from the sport.

“I never even liked tennis anyway,” Murray wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday in a now-viral post. The athlete’s bio on the platform was also changed from “I play tennis” to “I have played tennis.”

Murray was eliminated from the Paris Olympics, where he represented Great Britain in the men’s doubles tournament with Daniel Evans. His last competitive match was a quarter-final doubles defeat against Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz of the United States.

“I’m happy with the way it ended,” Murray told reporters about the end of his career. “I’m happy to be able to go to the Olympics and finish on my own terms because it’s not been a given the last few years,” he added, referring to his recent injuries.

Murray has won three Grand Slam tournaments and two Olympic gold medals in his 21-year career.

Fans found the farewell post on X to be wonderful.
