After the first round of the Fayette County Open on Friday, the former champion sits behind leader Mike Revak on the leaderboard.

Revak, a former champion himself, completed the day’s round with a 4-under 68 at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

Former champion Santino Marchitello finished with a 1-over 73 alongside Danny Glover, while defending champion Jeremy Enslen finished with a 2-over 74. Also performing were two-time junior champions Logan Voytish and Matt Pramuk.

“I didn’t hit my putt very well,” Enslen said. “I had a hard time adjusting to the speed of the greens.

“It was nothing spectacular. The tour could have been a lot worse.”

Enslen has a basic plan for what he needs to do in Saturday’s second round at Pleasant Valley Golf Club.

“If I shoot around 70, I’m there. If you’re around five shots on the last day, you’re there,” Enslen said. “(Pleasant Valley) is a good Day 2 course. It rewards good shots and punishes bad shots.”

Voytish went out at 1-over 37 and came back with the same score. He made two bogeys and a birdie on both sides.

“At best my round could have been 1-under,” Voytish said. “I wanted to shoot for par, so I was two over my target.”

Voytish believes he can have a solid tour in Pleasant Valley.

“I love Pleasant Valley. I’m excited for tomorrow,” said Voytish, who will play golf at West Chester this fall. “If my driver is on point like it was today, I know the holes I can attack. My plan tomorrow is to go a par or two short on holes 5 and 6. I don’t do well on those holes.

“I have to be in the red in the second round. Simply put, I will play aggressively

YOUTH TOURNAMENT: Connellsville senior Ethan Porreca and Albert Gallatin senior Caeden Williams took the lead with 5-over 77s in the opening round of the junior tournament.

“It was a tough 77,” Porreca said. “I made the right putts when I had to. I had some chip shots today and I made some good recovery shots.

“It’s not the easiest course. It was a dry course. The rough was tough. You had to pick it cleanly, but the greens were soft.”

Albert Gallatin’s Caeden Williams scored 77 points.

Pleasant Valley Golf Club is Connellsville’s course, so Porreca expects a more familiar round.

“I should be able to play tomorrow,” Porreca added.

The high school golf season begins on Monday, and the left-hander believes a strong weekend will carry over into the first week.

“I could play well on Sunday and shoot low in practice. That would put me in a good mindset,” Porreca said.

Laurel Highlands’ Jacob Kalich scored 80 points, and Uniontown’s Trevor Uphold scored 84 points.

FAMILY TIES: At the Fayette County Open, the “family” grows with seven siblings, two father-son duos, the Rugola brothers and a pair of cousins.

Siblings include Scott and Justin Goletz, Fred and Rich David, Greg and Eric Moore, Matt, Nathan and Jonathan Hanson, Jared and Ben Sutton, Chris and Jim Miller, and Chance and Christian Burchick. Cousins Mark and Jeff Rambo. Sisters Danae and Adena Rugola. Father-son duos Logan and Jeremy Voytish and Pete and Pete Dzambo III.

FASHION PLATE: The colors weren’t too flashy on opening day, but Mike Lynch sported vibrant “American colors” in a blue shirt and bright red shorts, while John Lenkey wore vibrant neon blue shorts and a floral shirt.

PLAYING IN THE RAIN: From the 8am start the first couple of groups were soaked by a hard rain shower, including Glover and Pramuk who were the first to bat.

Pramuk, competing in the 26th Fayette County Open, is among the favorites with a score of 74.

“This is my second-best round of the Open at Duck Hollow,” Pramuk said. “I kept it in play, fairway to green, chipping and putting.

“The rain was so heavy and fast that it went off the road.”

“If I can get past Pleasant Valley, that would be great. Pleasant Valley is my kryptonite,” Pramuk said of the second round.

STILL ONGOING: George Knapp continued his streak of playing in every tournament at the Fayette County Open with an opening round of 82.
