Jon Scheyer Enters Battle for Finnish Forward

Miikka Muurinen is a rising senior at Compass Prep (Ariz.) after transferring from Sunrise Christian (Kan.), where the Finnish phenom began to showcase his top-tier versatility and all-around ability in the United States. In April, the 6-foot-10-inch, 185-pound forward began receiving interest from the Duke basketball team while Bradley Beal was starring on the Nike E16 amateur circuit for Elite.

The Blue Devils reached out to Muurinen in mid-June, shortly after the start of the direct contact period in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

And on Sunday, the four-star prospect picked up an offer from third-year head coach Jon Scheyer after leading the Bradley Beal Elite team to the E16 Peach Jam championship in North Augusta, S.C., scoring 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in a 74-67 win over Team CP3. About 24 hours later, Kentucky followed suit, bringing Muurinen’s total number of early offers to nine.

Muurinen is expected to make a splash, as he’s only ranked No. 69 overall in the 247Sports 2026 Composite. After all, he’s ranked No. 10 among rising high school juniors in the eyes of On3 alone, and he recently received this summary assessment from national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw:

“His physicality, size, athleticism and fluidity combined, ticks a lot of boxes going forward.”

Duke basketball’s 2026 offer list, which had been vacant until last week, now consists of three names: Miikka Muurinen, five-star guard Brandon McCoy Jr. from St. John Bosco High School (Calif.) and five-star guard Jordan Smith Jr. from Paul VI Catholic High School (Va.).
