2024 Olympics Golf picks, betting preview: Women’s competition experts’ predictions for Paris

With the men’s Olympic golf gold awarded to Scottie Scheffler, we can now focus on the women’s side of the event. That event kicks off this Thursday at the same Golf National track, and much of what you read last week is true.

Driving accuracy will be important; greens will be important; play around the green is not so important, but three-putt avoidance will be key.

As for the field, once again we are looking at 60 golfers, with a wide representation by country. Once again the USA leads the field with three golfers, and all three are among the favourites.

Nelly Korda (USA) will enter another major as the favourite and will be around +500 at most books. Atthaya Thitikul (THA) and Lilia Vu (USA) are the other two golfers under 10:1 and will each be around +900.

To some extent, it makes sense that Nelly is the favorite; she owns the gold medal she won at Kasumigaseki Country Club in 2021. She’s also primed for a wild 2024 season, tying the LPGA record by winning five straight events this spring.

However, if we divide the season into two parts, a very clear trend emerges.

Here are the results up to May 20: T16, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, T7, 1

Here are his results since then: MC, MC, MC, T26

The best result is the last one (and that was another tournament in France — Evian), but the split is very clear. He has really struggled since his historic run and the odds don’t really reflect that.

I’m also down from my second favorite in this tournament, Atthaya Thitikul – someone I’m usually VERY high on. As mentioned, accuracy is of the utmost importance at Le Golf National, and of the favorites in this tournament, Thitikul is by far the least accurate off the tee.

Since I’m lower in the top two, that naturally gives us a lot of good looks for this week and I have three golfers that I really like in the second tier as well as a long-term goal. Let’s take a look at mine. 2024 Olympics Women’s Golf Betting Preview For this weekend.

2024 Olympics Women’s Golf Picks and Predictions

Jin Young Ko — South Korea (+1500, Caesars)

Ko enters the Olympics as the widely accepted fourth favorite, just below the names listed above, but I see her on par with this group, largely because of how well she fits into this course.

He’s accurate off the tee; his iron game is among the best in the sport; and he’s a very solid lag putter. He’s been knocking on the door this season, with plenty of results but no wins. That could very well change next Sunday.

But even more so with JYK, I like him in matchups against Thitikul and/or Korda if we get them this week. His floor is incredibly high and I will also play him for medals and top 10 when we get them this Sunday.

Miyu Yamashita — Japan (+1800, bet365)

The 22-year-old has dominated the JLPGA for the past few years and is heading to the LPGA this season. She won the JLPGA Golfer of the Year award in both 2022 and 2023 and collected the most money on tour both years.

She also has an elite record in LPGA events, finishing T13 at the AIG Women’s Open in her first major at age 20. She’s played in all four majors this season and has a T12, a T17 and a T39, along with a second. Her floor and ceiling are both very strong.

She’s also another player who fits the course perfectly. She has the highest driving accuracy of any player who has made at least a dozen LPGA tours this year, hitting over 85% of the fairways. She backs that up with a solid iron set and a good putter, making her a perfect fit for Le Golf National.

I will take the same approach with him as I did with Ko; one-on-one battles, aiming for medals and a place in the top 10.
