Olympics 2024: Great Britain win team sprint silver as skateboarding star Sky Brown takes bronze in Paris | Olympic News

Great Britain settled for silver in the men’s team sprint for the team of Jack Carlin, Ed Lowe and Hamish Turnbull, while skateboarding star Sky Brown won bronze after suffering a dislocated shoulder ahead of the Games.

The British men won the silver medal in the team sprint, with pre-race favourites Holland breaking two world records to win the gold medal.

In a repeat of their Tokyo Games result, the Dutch trio of Harrie Lavreysen, Jeffrey Hoogland and Roy van den Berg broke their own world records in the first round and then in the final to defend their title, finishing almost a second ahead of Team GB with a time of 40.949 seconds.

Carlin, 27, was part of the silver medal-winning squad three years ago alongside Sir Jason Kenny (now coach) and the retired Ryan Owens, but this was the biggest result of the careers of Turnbull, 25, and Lowe, who is just 20.

British skateboarding star Sky Brown won a bronze medal despite suffering a dislocated shoulder ahead of the Games.

Brown completed a remarkable comeback after dislocating her shoulder in the women’s skatepark competition at La Concorde last month, matching the bronze medal in Tokyo with a score of 92.31 in her third of three runs.

The 16-year-old athlete finished fourth in the heats with 84.75 points but fell heavily in one of her last three runs, worsening her injury and breaking down in tears.

A tearful Brown vowed to “fight” the pain and her stunning final run was enough to get her back on the Olympic podium.

Arisa Trew’s big run took her to first place, with Brown in second place, while the last skater, Cocona Hiraki, beat her to win silver in Tokyo when she was 12.

But it was a remarkable comeback for Brown, who suffered a serious knee injury last year and a fractured skull in an accident a year before the Tokyo Games.

“This journey since Tokyo has been crazy, but watching the levels change in Paris and knowing that we all have to push the boundaries together has been really cool,” Brown said. “Arisa is amazing and the level has changed so much since Tokyo.

“I am a double Olympic medalist. It’s really great and I’m very happy.”

Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix missed out on winning her second Olympic medal at Paris 2024 by finishing sixth in the women’s 10m platform final.

The 19-year-old athlete, who finished third in the semi-finals on Monday, qualified for the final and placed fourth off the podium with a powerful opening jump.

However, the athlete showed a poor performance with a score of 62.40 in the second round and came in seventh place in the fourth round.

Our athlete, who showed a strong performance with a time of 81.60 in her last dive, had to settle for sixth place.

Despite a disappointing performance in the individual event, Spendolini-Sirieix won a medal at these Games last week in the 10m synchronised event with partner Lois Toulson.

In Tuesday’s individual event, China’s Quan Hongchan won gold after setting the standard in the first round, finishing with a perfect dive to finish with 90 points and take the top spot with an impressive 425.60 points.

Teammate Chen Yuxi took silver, while North Korea’s Kim Mi-rae took bronze.

Tokyo silver medallist Laura Muir qualified comfortably for the women’s 1500m semi-finals by finishing second in her heat at the Stade de France.

The Scot said she needed to finish in the top six to secure her place and she did so in 3:58.91, 7100 seconds behind Ethiopia’s series winner Gudaf Tsegay.

“Ultimately my only goal was to try to make it to the semi-finals without any setbacks,” said Muir, who is competing in her third Olympics. “I did that and it all came very easily.”

“I’m not thinking about the final yet, it’s all about the semi-finals. It’s easy to get carried away.

“I’ve been here many times before and always made it to the final but I never took it for granted. The focus is on getting to that final.”

She will be joined in Thursday’s semi-final by Georgia Bell, who won the British women’s 1500m title in June.

Victoria Ohuruogu needed a first place finish to survive her own repechage round and advanced to the women’s 400m semi-finals with a season-best time of 50.59 seconds.
