Team Germany will be competing for Bronze after a tough 69-73 defeat to the host nation in France. They trailed for most of the match but had a chance to win by scoring nine points in the final minutes. After the loss, they will face a hungry Serbian team that is giving the United States a run for their money.

Team Serbia will be playing in the Bronze Medal game after a heartbreaking 95-91 loss to the United States. Despite leading 54-43 at halftime, Serbia was unable to stop Team USA’s attack in the fourth quarter, with Durant, James, Curry and Embiid all coming out on top. Now, they will look to bounce back and return home with Olympic hardware.

Why Germany Will Close/Gain the Spread

Team Germany were slight odds-on favorites to beat France, but they fell behind for much of the second half and were unable to shoot the ball. They also sent France to the line for crucial free throws and were outscored 40-28 in the paint. France’s home court was Germany’s biggest problem, and they need to see another solid defensive team in Serbia. Franz Wagner carries this team in goal, so he will need to put in another great performance to carry this German team to victory.

Germany also fell behind on second chance points and will need to tighten up their rebounding against Serbia, one of the best rebounding teams throughout this tournament. While they lack size against Serbia’s length, Germany did a great job of moving the ball and finding their open shots. If they can win their individual matchups and get assists instead of turnovers, they should be able to run up and down the court with this Serbian defense.

Why Serbia Will Cover/Win the Spread

Team Serbia must be kicking themselves after blowing an 11-point lead against the United States and losing the game in the final minutes. Their offensive rebounds gave them the upper hand several times throughout this game, but they were no match for the United States in transition and fast break. They will need to rush the court in this game as Germany will try to push the tempo. However, their best player on the court will be Nikola Jokic, and he has been adept at slowing down the tempo so the Serbian team can run their offensive sets through him.

Team Serbia was able to outscore the United States with their excellent use of the pick-and-roll throughout the first half. Nikola Jokic is a master of it and the team as a whole has great chemistry. They are quick to find their hot shooters and play very finely around the basket. They also have a longer roster and should take a page from France’s book and attack the paint throughout the entire game.

Final Germany-Serbia Prediction and Picks

This should be another classic matchup in the tournament, as both teams could have easily made it to the Gold Medal game if not for the second half collapses in their respective semi-finals. Team Germany definitely has the better offense of the two, and their scoring ability is at its best when Franz Wagner is running the offense. However, Serbia is locked in defensively, and if they can keep their game going for four quarters, they could come away with a win.

Serbia’s size in the matchup will be another issue for Team Germany, and they will need to put in extra effort to penetrate the paint and find shots inside. They can’t risk relying on their outside shooting, otherwise Serbia will take advantage of their easy shots from inside the arc.

Serbia was very impressive in their matchup against the United States and are legitimate favorites going into this matchup. Due to their size and ability to spread the ball around on offense, they could pull off this win if their defense holds up against Germany’s scorers.
