Jason Kelce Explains Why He Arm Wrestles Team USA’s Nicole Heavirland

Jason Kelce reflects on his time at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including his viral arm wrestling match with USA Women’s Rugby star Nicole Heavirland.

While appearing in the last episode of the series Green Light with Chris Long Kelce, 36, explained on the podcast why he was initially hesitant to compete with the 29-year-old athlete.

“Man, I hate saying yes to arm wrestling. Especially when it’s always somebody smaller than you, because it’s like a losing situation,” Kelce said. “So if I win, it’s like, ‘Oh, look at the big guy messing with the smaller guy.'”

But the former NFL star chose to take on the challenge in the spirit of the Olympics.

“I’m in the Olympics, of course. And (Nicole) is like, ‘Do you want to arm wrestle?’ And I said, okay, I wouldn’t turn down an Olympian to arm wrestle at the Olympics,” he said.

Despite losing the match, Heavirland shared a clip of his interaction with Kelce on Instagram, writing, “I offered Jason Kelce an arm wrestle.”

He jokingly hinted that he wasn’t following the rules during the match and wrote, “@jason.kelce is he holding on to that table a little? ” under the post.

The retired Philadelphia Eagles player’s wife, Kylie Kelce, who accompanied him on the trip, commented on the video in a humorous way, saying, “I tried to warn you!”

“Holding on to something with your free hand is within the rules of the International Arm Wrestling Federation,” he said, jokingly defending himself.

In another hilarious clip on TikTok, star player Ilona Maher named Jason the unofficial mascot of the U.S. women’s rugby team. She later showed her appreciation for the new title by wearing a red, white, and blue button-down shirt with various images of Maher’s face.

Jason spoke to the Associated Press about why he and Kylie chose to make the most of their time at the Olympics.

“When we found out we were going to have the opportunity to do this, the more we thought about it, the more we thought, ‘Let’s take advantage of this since we can actually do this,'” he said.
