The New Zealander, a physiotherapist by profession, worked alongside the seven-time world champion at Mercedes during his championship-winning seasons and has undoubtedly played a key role in his success.

Cullen thrives in new environment

After a period away from the spotlight, Cullen has decided to return to motorsports and team up with New Zealander Chip Ganassi Racing driver Marcus Armstrong.

In an extensive interview posted on the IndyCar YouTube channel, Cullen explained that there’s a lot more to his job than some people think.

Cullen teamed up with New Zealander Marcus Armstrong in IndyCar

“I’m a performance manager,” Cullen replied when asked about the details of his new role. “That’s what I would call myself,”

“I am a physiotherapist, but I manage things far beyond the physiotherapy and body side.”

Cullen later added: “For me, ever since I got into motorsport, most of the people here are interested in cars.

“I’m talking about the driver and the driver’s performance.”

Armstrong, who has been working with Cullen since March, has four top-five finishes in their IndyCar collaboration, including a third-place finish in Detroit.

Armstrong’s previous best finish before they started working together in the series was sixth place in Toronto last year.
