Shnaider beats Sasnovich to win Hungarian Open

Shnaider, who is top seed in Budapest, has been strong on court despite losing just one set in five matches this week.

Today’s final match was an up-and-down affair, with both players allowing a total of twelve breaks (five on Shnaider’s serve, seven on Sasnovich’s).

But the Russian, who eventually triumphed, added another clay-court title to her impressive list of titles this year, winning two hard-court titles, both on grass.

Seeded 28th, Shnaider defeated Hungarian wildcard Fanny Stollar (6-3, 3-6, 6-4), qualifier Ekaterina Makarova (6-3, 6-3), lucky loser German Ella Seidel (6-4, 6-2) and German Eva Lys (6-3, 6-3) prior to her victory.

Sasnovich, ranked 134th, defeated second seeded Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (2-6, 6-2, 6-4), Russian Maria Timofeeva (6-3, 6-4), Dutch Suzan Lamens (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) and Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Budapest Tournament.
