Loh Kean Yew, Yip Pin Xiu, Shayna Ng, Aloysius Yapp at the parade

SINGAPORE — The year’s top four Singaporean athletes took a celebratory walk on an open-top bus from Singapore Sports Hub to Marina Bay Sands, Chinatown and Orchard Road on Sunday (Dec 26).

The four have all reached the pinnacle of their respective sports this year: Loh Kean Yew became the badminton world champion last week; Shayna Ng won the IBF Super World Championship title last month; Aloysius Yapp became the world No 1 in snooker in October; and Yip Pin Xiu won two gold medals in Paralympic swimming in Tokyo in September.

Fans waved at the athletes as the bus made its way through downtown Singapore.

Loh later posted a Facebook post thanking fans for their support. He wrote: “I am honoured to join my Team Singapore teammates Yip Pin Xiu, Shayna Ng and Aloysius Yapp, three extraordinary athletes with very impressive credentials, in today’s celebrations. A big (wave) to everyone who came out to say hello!”

“Rain or shine, thank you all for being here for us. Thank you, Singapore.”

The celebration ceremony was organised in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Sports, Cuesports Singapore, Singapore Badminton Association, Singapore Bowling Federation and Singapore Disabled Sports Council to recognise the quartet’s achievements.
