Oregon Ducks’ Dillon Brooks, Canada Improve to 2-0 at Paris Olympics

Oregon’s Dillon Brooks and Canada appear certain to advance to the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics.

Canada improved to 2-0 with a 93-83 win over Australia in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, France. This was one of the most talented matchups you’ll face in pool play due to the number of NBA players on the court. The Canadians have 10 players on their current NBA roster, while the Australians have nine.

Dillon Brooks of the Houston Rockets has been consistent with his overall play on both ends of the floor through the first two games. The Oregon product finished with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and he also had three rebounds while matching the Aussies’ red-hot shooters. Josh Giddey of the Chicago Bulls scored 19 points on 7-of-14 field goals, but he did much more for his team by grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists.

Canada sits atop the Group A standings with four points, while Australia is just behind in second place with three points with a 1-1 record. The Olympic tournament features three different groups of four teams. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals, while the final two spots in the next round go to the best third-placed teams from group play.

The final match of the group stage for Oregon’s Dillon Brooks and the other Canadians will be against the always tough Spain on Friday, August 2 at 8:15 a.m. ET.
