Chicago White Sox call up talented pitcher Ky. Bush to start Monday night

The Chicago White Sox are adding another top pitching prospect to their roster.

Ky. Bush’s contract was selected by the White Sox on Monday, and the Utah native will make his career debut against Oakland on Monday night.

Bush is rated as the No. 6 prospect in the White Sox’s farm system by Baseball America, while MLB.com ranks Bush as the Sox’s No. 17 prospect.

The White Sox acquired Bush, along with catcher Edgar Quero, from the Los Angeles Angels on July 26, 2023, in exchange for pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López.

Both Bush and another leading pitching prospect, Drew Thorpe, had been exposed to baseball as children in southern Utah before Bush moved to northern Utah and played collegiately at St. Mary’s.

Bush is 7-4 with a 2.89 ERA in 18 games and 16 starts between Class AAA and Class AA this season. He has held opponents to a . 196 (70-357) batting average and has struck out 94 batters.

Bush recorded a 2.12 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 14 games for Birmingham before being promoted to Charlotte.

In corresponding moves, the Sox reacquired pitcher Dominic Leone from his injury rehab assignment in Charlotte and re-instated him to the roster from the 60-day injured list, as well as sending pitchers Prelander Berroa and Sammy Peralta to Charlotte.
