Rory McIlroy has accomplished many things in his illustrious career, but on Friday the four-time major champion nearly achieved his greatest feat of all time: achieving an Olympic first.

In the second round at Le Golf National, McIlroy narrowly missed smacking a long iron from 260 yards on the par 5 third hole. Instead, the golf ball hit the flagstick and landed about four feet away.

But perhaps because of all his previous success—or perhaps because McIlroy was so focused on winning gold—the PGA Tour star barely reacted to the magnificent shot. Take a look:

Seriously, no one has ever been this comfortable hitting a flagstick from 260 yards. McIlroy may not have been impressed with himself, but we certainly were.

Of course, it’s possible McIlroy didn’t realize how close the shot came. But he had to hear it hit the flag. And yet he barely reacted. Talk about pretending it’s been there before. Because, well, it kind of happened.

Anyway, McIlroy converted the eagle a few minutes later as he tried to climb the leaderboard on Day 2. Three years after losing a wild seven-man playoff for the bronze medal, the 35-year-old looks set to add his first Olympic medal to his impressive resume.
