BMW M Motorsport has announced that it will part ways with Team RMG at the end of the season, following a partnership spanning 14 years and resulting in three DTM championships.

“Our plans for our future structure do not provide a common perspective between the two parties,” motorsport director Andreas Roos said in a statement released on Thursday, leading to the end of the partnership.

Team RMG was founded in 2010 by team boss Stefan Reinhold as Reinhold Motorsport GmbH in order to prepare BMW’s return to the DTM in 2012.

RMG participated in 140 DTM races from 2012 to the end of the Class One era in 2020, taking 19 victories and winning two drivers’ championships with Marco Wittmann as well as the constructors’ championship in 2014.

After leaving the DTM, RMG moved into GT racing, where it ran the BMW Junior Team for Max Hesse, Dan Harper and Neil Verhagen. It also operated as the official test team for BMW’s motorsport activities.

The team has played a role in the development of cars such as the BMW M Hybrid V8 and the BMW M4 GT3 Evo, which is expected to enter customer racing next year.

RMG last finished on the overall podium with Hesse, Harper and Charles Weerts at the Nürburgring 24. According to BMW, the team “will continue to perform its duties regularly until the end of the year.”

“I would like to thank Stefan Reinhold and his team for 14 years of cooperation,” said Andreas Roos, BMW M Motorsport Director.

“During my time at the helm of BMW M Motorsport, I have come to know BMW M Team RMG as an ambitious operational team and a valuable, reliable test team that makes a significant contribution to the development of our race cars.

“Of course, joint championship victories in the DTM will continue to be unforgettable from a sporting perspective. I am delighted to experience another sporting highlight live on the podium at this year’s 24h Nürburgring.

“Unfortunately, our plans for our future setup do not offer a common perspective. Therefore, our cooperation will end with the end of the current season. I wish the team all the best!”
