GOLD MEDAL GAME

France vs. United States

  • Time: 3pm ET
  • Where: Bercy Arena (Paris, France)
  • Channel: NBC
  • Transfer: FuboTV (Free Trial), Peacock, Sling, DirecTV Streaming

A rematch of the gold medal match from three years ago, but it almost didn’t happen.

The United States faced a tough game against Serbia in the semifinals. They were outplayed from the start and trailed by 13 entering the fourth quarter. But Steph Curry, LeBron James and Joel Embiid helped the team rally, leading a spirited comeback to a 95-91 victory. The United States will be looking to win an unprecedented fifth consecutive gold medal.

For the first time in 28 years, the host nation will play for the gold medal in men’s basketball. France is returning to the gold medal game for the fourth time in the country’s history. Led by a deep core that includes young star Victor Wembayama, the French recovered from an opening-round loss to Germany to finish second in Group B. They pulled off big wins over Canada and Germany in the knockout stages to advance to the gold medal game for the second straight Olympics.

It will be the third time the U.S. and France have met in the gold medal match since the Americans beat the French in the 2000 final in Sydney.

BRONZE MEDAL GAME

Serbia vs. Germany

  • Time: 5 a.m. ET
  • Where: Bercy Arena (Paris, France)
  • Channel: USA Network
  • Transfer: FuboTV (Free Trial), Peacock, Sling, DirecTV Streaming

Germany may not be competing for gold, but the fact that Germany is competing for medals shows the development of the sport. Before Paris, the Germans had only reached the quarterfinals three times. Still, they won Group B and advanced to the semifinals by beating Greece in the quarterfinals.

Serbia can’t just play for bronze, especially since they have the U.S. in their sights. Still, the 2016 runners-up have a chance to win only their second medal as an independent nation on Saturday.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

BRONZE MEDAL MATCH

United States – Netherlands

  • Time: 04:35 Eastern Time
  • Where: Aquatic Sports Center (Paris, France)
  • Transfer: Peacock

It was certainly a surprise to see the U.S. competing for bronze instead of gold. The Americans certainly didn’t look as dominant as they have in past Olympics, losing a match in the opening round. Then, after narrowly beating Hungary in the quarterfinals, they lost to Australia on penalties in the semifinals, the first time since 2004 and only the second time in the history of the sport that the U.S. women’s team failed to advance to the gold medal match. That year, the Americans beat the Australians to finish third.

This tournament has been a great one for the Dutch, as they made it to the final four for the first time since beating the United States in 2008 to win the gold medal. This year’s team had a great run all the way to the semifinals before being upset by Spain on Thursday.

GOLD MEDAL MATCH

Australia vs. Spain

  • Time: 09:35 Eastern Time
  • Where: Aquatic Sports Center (Paris, France)
  • Channel: NBC
  • Transfer: FuboTV (Free Trial), Peacock, Sling, DirecTV Streaming

The two teams that have defeated three-time gold medalists will face off in the final. Spain lost to the United States in two of the last three Olympics but gained revenge on the Americans with a win in the opening round to win Group A.

Australia won the semi-finals in dramatic fashion, beating the United States on penalties. Now the Aussies are looking to win it all, something they have failed to do since beating the Americans in the first women’s water polo final in Sydney in 2000.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL GOLD MEDAL MATCH

Brazil vs. United States

  • Time: 11:00 AM ET
  • Where: Parc des Princes (Paris, France)
  • Channel: USA Network
  • Transfer: FuboTV (Free Trial), Peacock, Sling, DirecTV Streaming

The United States and Brazil, who are competing at the Olympics for a record-breaking third time, will face each other in the gold medal match.

Having failed to advance to the finals in the last two Olympics, the Americans returned to Paris with a vengeance. They dominated the opening round to win Group B, then needed extra time to swept past Japan and Germany to advance to the Olympic finals for a record sixth time.

Brazil didn’t even make it out of the quarterfinals in Tokyo. This year’s team advanced to the knockout stage with a 1-0-2 record and finished third in Group C. Still, they managed a 1-0 victory over hosts France in the quarterfinals before beating Spain 4-2 in the semifinals.

The U.S. is 4-1 in the Olympic Finals, with the Brazilians losing to the Americans in 2004 and 2008.

SESSION #19 (1:00 p.m., NBC)

  • Men: High Jump (Final, 13:00), 800m (Final, 13:05), 5000m (Final), 13:50, 4x400m Relay (Final, 15:00)
  • Women: Javelin Throw (Final, 13:30), 100m Hurdles (Final, 13:35), 1500m (Final, 14:15), 4x400m Relay (Final, 15:14)

There’s plenty to watch in Paris on the track’s final day of action.

Quincy Hall, 16, turned heads when he won gold in the individual 400-meter relay. Now he has a chance to help Team USA take home another gold in the 4×400-meter relay, giving his country a chance to win a medal.

In the men’s 800-meter event, it’s hard to predict who will take home the gold medal over two laps. Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati finished second at the 2022 world championships but has been fast all year. Emmanuel Wanyonyi finished second in Hungary last year but has been even faster so far this year.

BREAKING NEWS

Men’s Final

  • Time: 2pm ET
  • Where: La Concorde (Paris, France)
  • Channel: E! Network
  • Transfer: FuboTV (Free Trial), Peacock, Sling, DirecTV Streaming

After an exciting event for the women, the men will have the chance to show off their skills. On Saturday, former world champions Victor and Phil Wizard are expected to compete for the gold medal, while Asian Champion Shigekix will also be in action.

MEN’S BEACH VOLLEYBALL

GOLD MEDAL MATCH

Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler (GER) vs. Jonatan Hellvig/David Ahman (Sweden)

  • Time: 4:30 PM ET
  • Where: Eiffel Tower Stadium (Paris, France)
  • Channel: USA Network
  • Transfer: FuboTV (Free Trial), Peacock, Sling, DirecTV Streaming

Hellvig and Ahman arrived in Paris as the tournament’s No. 1 team, but suffered a setback when they lost to Qatar in their opening match, finishing with just a 1-2 record in pool play. They turned things around in the knockout stages, though, taking a rematch against Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan in the semifinals and winning in straight sets. They were already the first Swedish team to advance to the beach volleyball semifinals. Now, they hope to make history.

That is, unless Ehlers and Wickler have anything to say about it. The Germans knocked off Norway’s gold medalists Mol and Soeur to reach the final match. They’ve been pretty consistent throughout the tournament and are hoping to become the first German men’s team to win gold since Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann in 2012, and the first German team overall since Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst won the women’s gold in 2016.
