The men’s decathlon is one of the greatest displays of strength and endurance at the Olympic Games. Over two days, the event is contested with the winner being crowned the world’s best male athlete.

The 10 branches to be competed in are as follows: 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters, 110 meters hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meters.

Defending gold medalist Damian Warner of Canada is back in Paris, but the decathlon is missing two key athletes. French world record holder Kevin Mayer from 2018 withdrew with a thigh injury, and reigning world champion Pierre LePage of Canada is also out with a back injury.

First-time Olympic athlete Leo Neugebauer of Germany, 24, finished first in the first five events on Friday, with Puerto Rican Ayden Owens-Delerme second and Norwegian Sander Skotheim third.
