The star trio of the US Women’s National Team nickname themselves ‘Triple Espresso’

With Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith taking the Olympics by storm, the soccer world is scrambling to find a fitting nickname for the star trio of the U.S. women’s national team.

The U.S. Soccer Federation is trying to bring the “Trident” to life, but thankfully, three forwards have now done the job on their own.

Appearing on the “Today” show on Thursday, the trio nicknamed themselves “Triple Espresso.”

“We have our own name. We have an announcement,” Smith told hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb. “Trinity, take it away.”

“We have a suggestion that our trio should be called ‘Triple Espresso.’ So we’re going to put that out there and have people use it because we like it too,” Rodman said.

Triple Espresso’s incredible Olympic performance so far has led to the need for a nickname.

The U.S. Women’s National Team’s offensive line scored nine of the team’s 11 goals, with each player recording three goals.

Rodman scored the winning goal in extra time against Japan in the quarter-finals, while Smith did the same against Germany in the semi-finals, and the trio proved unstoppable at the Paris Games.

The U.S. women’s national team will play Brazil in the gold medal match on Saturday, aiming to win gold for the first time since 2012.
