Tennis: Andy Murray confirms retirement after Paris Olympics

Paris, July 23 (IANS): Scotland’s former World No. 1 Andy Murray announced on Tuesday that the upcoming Paris Olympics will be his final tournament as a tennis player. Murray will end his illustrious playing career after the Paris Olympics, the 37-year-old confirmed via social media on Tuesday.

Murray, who has won 46 tour titles, will represent Great Britain for the fifth time at the Olympic Games in Paris, when the tennis event runs from July 27 to August 4. A two-time Olympic men’s singles gold medallist, Murray will then end his 20-year professional career.

“I’ve arrived in Paris for my final tennis tournament at the @Olympics. Competing for Great Britain has been one of the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m so proud to do it one last time!” Murray wrote in a post shared on X, formerly Twitter.

Murray will compete in Paris in the singles and doubles (with Daniel Evans). He won his first Olympic gold by beating Roger Federer in the final at London 2012, then defended his crown by beating Juan Martin del Potro in an epic final at Rio de Janeiro 2016.
