CSI men’s basketball team signs Australian player for next season

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Southern Idaho College will have a new athlete from The Land Down Under for the upcoming season.

Amarco Doyle is set to join the CSI men’s basketball team.

The player, who hails from the Australian state of Queensland, expressed his excitement about joining the Golden Eagles in an interview with KMVT.

“I can’t wait to get to Southern Idaho,” Doyle said. “I’m excited to play basketball for the team, but I’m also excited to enjoy the beautiful area with so many waterfalls and canyons.”

Doyle brings a wealth of experience to the team.

He won a silver medal at the Under 20 Basketball Australia National Championships and was awarded the Under 23 Young Player of the Year award.

Doyle was also selected for the Queensland state team.

“Amarco is the great late player we’ve been looking for,” said CSI Head Coach Jeff Reinert. “He’s played against some really good players the last two years. He can play inside and outside and he’s improved his 3-point shooting this season. I like big guards and we added some late players that will help us rebound inside.”

Playing in the league from a young age helped Doyle prepare for the college level.

“You mature in basketball, you play with older guys from your 20s to your late 30s, all the way up,” Doyle told KMVT. “Playing with those teams helped me learn some simple tricks on the court, and that helped me improve my game.”

Doyle played on the AAU circuit in both Wichita, Kansas and Memphis, Tennessee in the early summer.

He received an offer and signed with Division II Seattle Pacific University in Washington, but the NCAA did not allow him to play because of his amateur status.

“I was stressed. I had less than a month to find a school and I still needed my visa,” Doyle said. “Then CSI reached out to me and we went from there.”

Traveling around the world is never easy, but Doyle will get used to it easily.

“I’ll miss my family and friends, but I can adapt to places,” Doyle said. “The thing I’ll miss the most is the food. I love a home-cooked meal.”

Doyle is the Golden Eagles’ sixth signing this offseason, joining Tanner Hayhurst, KJ Morrast, Cooper Kesler, Jalen Lyn and Khayri Dunn.
