Argentina, the reigning World Cup and Copa América champions, and Colombia, unbeaten in 28 matches since 2022, will face each other in the 2024 Copa América final on Sunday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The match started at around 21:15 GMT due to fans storming the gates, causing a delay to the originally scheduled 20:00 start time.

Colombia’s unbeaten streak continued into the final, with Los Cafeteros going 2-1-0 in the group stage before beating Brazil on penalties, beating Panama 5-0 and eliminating Uruguay with a 1-0 win in the semi-finals. Which team was the last to beat Colombia? Well, one of the reasons they didn’t make it to Qatar that year was Argentina, who won 1-0 against Colombia in the 2022 South American World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s victory helped them eventually qualify for the World Cup, which they won on penalties against France. But it was the 2021 Copa América that saw Lionel Messi lead La Albiceleste to the trophy and onto the path to world domination after 28 barren years.

The two sides now meet in a Copa América final for the first time in the tournament’s 108-year history, with Argentina’s victory securing a record-breaking 16th Copa América trophy while Colombia seeks only its second title.

Live56 updates

  • Half time score: Argentina 0-0 Colombia

  • The first half is over and the score is 0-0.

Remember, half-time is around 25 minutes tonight thanks to the Shakira concert. This could be good news for Lionel Messi, who has been limping. He hasn’t been walking properly for the last 12 minutes.

  • CONCACAF staff say, ‘Don’t look at us.’ CONMEBOL is responsible for matchday operations and security.

  • Messi returned to the field. The scare was averted. He was complaining about his right ankle in a challenge that seemed more painful for his left ankle.

  • The gates are finally open at Hard Rock Stadium

The gates at Hard Rock Stadium have opened, and fans who were unable to get in can now do so. But as The Athletic’s Felipe Cárdenas observes, it’s not even clear whether some of those who did get in currently have tickets:

As you can see, people are flocking to the place.

  • Lionel Messi appears to be in pain after running towards the goal line and attempting to cross the ball following a challenge from Santiago Arias.

  • 35′ Messi fell to the ground after a tough tackle

  • Colombia look the better side in the first 33 minutes. They haven’t been able to capitalise on any chances so far, but that doesn’t mean Argentina will win easily.

  • Audio and video appear to be back in sync.

Meanwhile, in the 20th minute it is still 0-0.

  • Fans still trying to get into Hard Rock Stadium

The chaos outside Hard Rock Stadium appears to be far from over, with video shared on social media showing fans continuing to try to enter the venue over the last half hour, even climbing through vents to get inside.

  • Fox’s audio currently appears to be about 5 seconds ahead of the visuals. Very disturbing

  • 7′ Jhon Cordoba missed the target!

  • Wow, Colombia were quick in their attacks in the first seven minutes. Argentina found themselves behind several times.

  • After the chaos of the last few hours at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, the Copa America final is about to begin. Let’s get started. This should be a great match.
