Serena Williams denied entry to luxury hotel in Paris

Serena Williams has shared on social media her unfortunate experience at a luxury hotel in Paris. The former world No. 1 is visiting Paris as the Olympic Games continue and has been spotted in the audience several times, including at the final between Alcaraz and Djokovic on Sunday.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion said on social media that she tried to access the rooftop of the Peninsula hotel but was not allowed to eat in, despite the restaurant being empty. The legendary former tennis player also complained that the situation occurred while she was with her children.

“OMG @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to the rooftop to eat at an empty restaurant in a nicer location… but never with my kids. Always a first,” she wrote.

The hotel’s official account later apologized to Williams and said she could return at any time: “Dear Ms. Williams, please accept our deepest apologies for your disappointment tonight. Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was fully booked and the only empty tables you saw were at our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was fully booked.”

Leylah Fernandez stars in latest match with Toronto FC Hawk

Leylah Fernandez was the star of the recent Toronto Football Club match, as she entered the field with the team’s traditional falcon. The former U.S. Open runner-up is the big local favourite for the upcoming Canadian Open and a star attraction in the tournament’s promotional activities.

This time, he was the guest of honour at the Toronto FC match. The 21-year-old was with the team’s falcon before Sunday’s match against Pachuca (Toronto won 2-1). “I like to think that animals love me, they just show it in a very different way,” Leylah commented, while her sister Bianca Fernandez told the camera that animals generally do not like the current world number 25.

“We’re about to go out with Atlanta, oh my gosh, we’re going to take the players and the referees out on the field with Atlanta in Toronto. We’re going to sing the national anthem and watch a great football game,” Leylah Fernandez said before entering the field. “I’m more afraid of tripping, that’s something I’m afraid of doing and I’ve been known to trip myself,” she said with a laugh.

Swiatek celebrates victory of Poland’s historic volleyball team

The world number one was the guest of honour for the Polish men’s volleyball team during the Olympic Games. Iga Swiatek suffered a surprise defeat against Zheng Qinwen in the semi-finals. Despite being the favourite to win the gold medal at Paris 2024, she won the bronze medal by beating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the third-place match.

Swiatek decided to skip the Canadian Open this week and take a few days off before hitting the hard court. The Polish player stayed in Paris for a few more days to support the men’s volleyball team as they compete for a spot in the semifinals and a chance to medal on Monday.

Poland beat Slovenia 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals after 44 years. Swiatek looks to be a lucky charm for his team and joined the Polish players in celebrating: “It was great! Thanks for letting me be there for a moment and celebrate with you. Do your job!” he wrote to X

Iga Swiatek came to support the Polish men’s volleyball team at the Olympics. They hadn’t made it to the semi-finals in 44 years. Iga came to support them and they finally made it. The curse is broken. World #1 magic.

How do you celebrate Poland’s first appearance in the men’s volleyball semifinals since 1980? Of course, invite Iga Swiatek to celebrate with you

Felix Auger-Aliassime’s emotional tribute to retired Andy Murray

Felix Auger-Aliassime was one of the stars of Olympic tennis, winning a bronze medal for Canada in the mixed doubles alongside the experienced Gabriela Dabrowski. The world number 19 also put in an impressive performance in the singles, reaching the semi-finals but eventually losing to Carlos Alcaraz. Despite having the chance to win the bronze medal in the singles, he suffered another defeat, this time against Lorenzo Musetti. Nevertheless, Auger-Aliassime expressed his pride in the medals on social media.
But what stood out this Monday was the three-time Grand Slam champion’s emotional tribute to Andy Murray, just days after his retirement. With the Olympics behind him, the Canadian shared a message thanking the Briton for being an inspiration throughout his career.

“I have always been so inspired when I have seen the resilience, determination and will to win that you have shown throughout your career. Thank you for setting a great example for our generation and the generations that will come in the future,” she wrote on social media.
