Observations from the Second Week of Oklahoma’s Fall Practice

JOHN E. HOOVER

John is an award-winning journalist who has worked in Oklahoma for over fifty years, winning numerous state, regional and national awards as a sportswriter for various newspapers. During his career in journalism, John has covered the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Arkansas Razorbacks and more. In 2016, John switched careers to radio, launching a YouTube channel and founding a successful independent media company, DanCam Media. From there, John has written for Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Fan Nation and a handful of local and national magazines, and has hosted daily sports radio shows in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and across the state. John has also spoken on Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City in a successful effort to place more certified athletic trainers in Oklahoma’s public high schools. Among the dozens of awards and honors John has received, his most notable are the national “Beat Writer of the Year” award from the Associated Press Sports Editors, Oklahoma’s “Best Sports Column” from the Society of Professional Journalists, and two “Excellence in Sports Medicine Reporting” awards from the National Athletic Trainers Association. John holds a BS in Mass Communications from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, John played football at Ada High School in Ada, Oklahoma, where he wrote for the school newspaper. He enjoys books, movies, and traveling, and lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, with his wife and two children.
