White Sox end record-breaking losing streak but remain on track to become season’s most-defeated team

The 2024 White Sox may have avoided the longest losing streak in modern baseball history, but they have work to do over the next few weeks to avoid another bad record.

The White Sox beat the A’s 5-1 on Tuesday to end a 21-game losing streak. The streak was the longest in the American League since 1900 and tied with the 1988 Baltimore Orioles and the 1961 Phillies for the longest modern losing streak in baseball.

White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon allowed one run on six hits, while Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run home run to take the offensive lead.

With the losing streak over, attention will now turn to whether the 2024 White Sox will suffer more losses than any team in modern baseball history.

That record currently belongs to the 1968 Mets, who went 40-120.

So if the White Sox maintain their current winning percentage through the end of the season, what will their record be? 39-123.
