Joilton Lutterbach admits to betting on Shara Magomedov after cancelled UFC Saudi Arabia bout: ‘I chose to take the risk’

It’s not often that fighters openly admit to taking performance-enhancing drugs, but it appears that Joilton Lutterbach did.

Lutterbach (38-10 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was scheduled to face Shara Magomedov (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on Saturday at UFC on ABC 6 (ABC/ESPN/ESPN+) from the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but withdrew from the fight due to a failed drug test. He will be replaced by Dana White’s Contender Series alum Antonio Trocoli.

Lutterbach initially said the anti-doping agency pulled him out of the fight because of a substance found in his urine. He has now admitted to drinking the juice months ago in the hopes it would cleanse his system when he received the surprise UFC call-up.

“Thank you for all the loving messages you’ve sent me during this difficult time. I actually started using Juice 3 months ago and never thought I’d sign with @ufc.

I could have hidden in the mountains or I could have gone to Thailand to hide like many others did and not been tested, but I chose to take the risk and believe that I was clean and ready to fight.

I signed the contract 3 weeks ago and that’s why I thought I was clean. My case will be analyzed by Combat Sport anti-doping and Sub Zero will definitely be frozen for a few months without fighting anyone or being frozen. I want to apologize to @ufc and my opponent Shara.

I’ll be frozen and not die. I’ll be back soon! .”

A 48-fight MMA veteran, Lutterbach has competed in Karate Combat, Muay Thai and Kickboxing throughout his career. He has competed in promotions such as KSW, Cage Warriors and PFL during his MMA career.
