Saudi Arabia’s dominance in combat sports is landing in the United States for the first time as Riyadh Season and Matchroom partner to bring a star-studded card to Los Angeles. Pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford will move up to middleweight against undefeated WBA champion Israil Madrimov in the main event.

With two world championship belts up for grabs and two marquee heavyweight bouts, Saturday promises to be a must-see event for fight fans. With that in mind, here are some predictions for the card.

Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) vs. Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs)

Just one year after completely dominating Errol Spence Jr., “Bud” returns to further his legacy with a trip to 154 pounds. Israil Madrimov will attempt to disrupt Terence Crawford’s attempt at that historic feat as he defends the belt he won in March for the first time.

Terence Crawford will undoubtedly have a significant size disadvantage, but the skill difference can make up for that. The Nebraska native is by far the most talented and experienced half of this main event. Madrimov’s path to victory appears to be fairly simple: apply pressure and use his weight to control the smaller man. That’s much easier said than done.

The same wild and aggressive punches that got him dancing will open him up to Crawford. Even if Crawford’s power isn’t as good as he hopes, Madrimov can still be a fairly easy and consistent target. While ring rust can make things difficult early on, Crawford can get away with it. Adjusting to the conditions can save him the time he’ll need to finish, but there should be no doubt when the scorecards are read.

Prediction: Crawford Decided

Isaac Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs) vs. Jose Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs)

Isaac Cruz didn’t take much time to celebrate after stealing Rolando Romero’s WBA super lightweight title. He returned four months later to defend against Jose Valenzuela. “Rayo” finished 2023 by avenging his close defeat to Chris Colbert with a sixth-round knockout.

Neither man is a stranger to a clash, and it’s very possible they’ll fall back into old habits on Saturday. That doesn’t work in Valenzuela’s favor. Cruz, who came to the final buzzer against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in 2021, is more durable than a man who was stopped early by Edwin de Los Santos. Even if Valenzuela chooses to use his reach advantage and punch his way to victory, “Pitbull” will likely walk through the punches and work where he’s more comfortable.

This will continue to be a fun fight for as long as it lasts.

Prediction: Cruz, KO, Round 7

Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs) vs. Jarrell Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs)

The fight between Andy Ruiz and Jarrell Miller is a poetic blend of destiny and friendship. Ruiz’s rise to fame came largely from his quick win over Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden. That feat came after Miller pulled out, opening the door for his sparring partner.

Now both men are trying to return to previous heights, with Miller returning to action for the first time since his late TKO defeat to Daniel Dubious in December, while Ruiz has been on a near two-year hiatus since beating Luis Ortiz.

From a pure talent perspective, this is a pretty evenly matched match. The uphill battle between two guys with comparable records and familiarity with each other is intriguing. But despite Ruiz’s more impressive resume, it’s unlikely that he’ll do him any favors after such a long absence.

Prediction: Miller Decided

Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs) vs. Martin Bakole (20-1, 15 KOs)

Two of the most intriguing talents on the fringes of the competition, Jared Anderson and Martin Bakole, will meet to determine the future of the heavyweight division. Anderson is coming off a decision over Ryad Merhy in April, while Bakole returns following a fourth-round knockout win over Carlos Takam in October.

The key to victory for Anderson appears to be movement. He will be a smaller man against the 6’6″ Bakole and will not want to stand still. If he makes it halfway without taking too much damage, expect Bakole to slow down from carrying 300 pounds while chasing his opponent. Anderson can win on points from there.

Prediction: Decisively Anderson
