Women’s Football Team Adds Maquena O’Callaghan as New Player

SAN DIEGO – Head coach Greg LaPorte and the San Diego women’s soccer team has finalized its 2024 roster and added Maquena O’Callaghan as a transfer.

O’Callaghan joins the Toreros after one season at Auburn and will be eligible to play for three more seasons.

Career Highlights:

  • A native of Escondido, California, O’Callaghan returns to his hometown after appearing in 14 games for Auburn, starting in three. He played 420 minutes for Auburn.
  • O’Callaghan recorded his first collegiate point with an assist in a 3–2 win against Army West Point.
  • O’Callaghan, who has been in the starting lineup at critical moments for Auburn, has started three times in SEC games against Mississippi State, Missouri and Ole Miss.
  • O’Callaghan played a career-best 55 minutes in the Missouri game.
  • In his youth career, O’Callaghan was a 2021 SPHS All-League selection and team MVP at San Pasqual High School, earning two-consecutive SPHS Scholar-Athlete honors.
  • O’Callaghan was also called up to the U17 Mexico national team.

O’Callaghan agrees Katie Bessemer (Sacramento State), Emma Elijah (Mater Dei Catholic High School), Aliya Garrett (Salt Lake CC), My Haugland Sørsdahl (University of California) Olivia Jandreski (Grand Canyon), Molly Quarry (Montana/Nebraska), Margaret Rabbit (George Washington), Jenna Red (Air forces), Elle Soleau (San Francisco/Boise State) and Natalie Yoo (Texas A&M/Coastal Carolina) joined the roster as veteran players for the 2024 season.

There are also seven freshmen in Toreros Ella Callan (Portland, Oregon/Portland Thorns ECNL), Hannah Faklaris (Atlanta, Georgia/TopHat South Carolina), Clara Geuzaine (Highlands Ranch, Colorado/Real Colorado ECNL), Marissa Morales (Gilbert, Arizona/Arizona Arsenal SC), Brianna Nesser (Riverside, California/Slammers FC ECNL), Rhea Pearson (Salt Lake City, Utah/La Rocca ECNL) and Chloe Walls (Chula Vista, Calif./San Diego Surf ECNL).

The Toreros will begin action this fall with an exhibition game against San Diego State on August 8th, then travel to Cal State Fullerton for the 2024 season opener on August 15th at 7 p.m.
